Congregation Beth Israel is established.
1887
Also known as the Baldwin Place synagogue, it meets initially at 27 Baldwin Place. The congregation is formed by members who leave Congregation Shomre Beth Abraham. It moves to 178 Hanover Street in 1887, to 132 Portland Street in 1888, back to Baldwin Place in 1890, and then to 287 Hanover Street. It reunites with Congregation Shomre Beth Abraham in 1892, and becomes part of Congregation Adath Jeshrun in Roxbury in 1894.* (It is dissolved in 1920, with some of its members becoming part of Adath Jeshrun in Roxbury in 1923.)
